When I created the product brief for the Descender, I was looking for a classic and modern watch that could tie Nixon’s heritage into a timeless design. We have lots of surfers, free divers and just all around waterman on the Nixon team, even at the office we have a solid crew included myself who jump for a quick lunch surf session at Swami’s or Cardiff reef almost on daily basis so I wanted to explore what could be the reinterpretation of what a classic waterman watch done the Nixon way.

The main element found on most dive watch is the Unidirectional bezel with elapsed time which is one of the main design I wanted to emphasize and make it very functional. To do so, the bezel is slightly recessed into the case which would protect the bezel from impacts. In addition I wanted our team to be able to read that elapsed timer under great depth so I added luminous ink to the markers, and I added a mineral crystal inlay to protect the luminous paint form wearing off.

the domed crystal with AR coating enables to wear it comfortably under a wetsuit and the crown at 9 o’clock prevents surfers from unwanted wrist bites when popping up. The crown has a shark tooth pattern for a better grip when you need to change time or update the date.

Overall the dial is highly functional and easy to read time under water and with a water rating of 300 meter and a reliable swiss movement this is watch is ready to take you to new depths.
